Among civilized people that's not important, but at eBay it can be used easily by the unscrupulous. You can insure First Class International at U-Pic.com, using just your numbers you did get (the customs form numbers) and a credit card. I'll guess that package might cost $3.20 to insure. That way, if it does disappear, you're not completely out.
